WELCOME TO
THE Recovery Radio FLASH! |
Week of October
26, 2005 |
Welcome...to the
FLASH! This weekly e-newsletter will keep you informed of
what's new at
Recovery Radio Show...and at Recovery Media, Inc., our
affiliated service corporation. We are dedicated to taking the
hope of RECOVERY to you, your family, and to all persons
afflicted with- or affected by - THE DISEASE OF ADDICTION.
There IS a better way....
1.
RECOVERY RADIO DECLARES WAR ON ADDICTION
One Person.
One Family. One Community, One State. OUR NATION....one
battle...and one day at a time!!!
This is our
rallying cry as we enter November and dedicate the entire month
to initiating our WAR ON ADDICTION. Not on addicts, but
on the DISEASE OF ADDICTION.
Addiction is without doubt the nation's number one HOMELAND
THREAT.
Essentially no family is spared from its misery and heartbreak.
Nearly $400 Billion is spent each year on Addiction. This
compared to $200 Billion for cancer. Even Katrina's $100 Billion
pales in comparison to the ravage of addiction. Also, our jails
and prisons would be nearly empty were it not for addiction and
its attendant criminal, social, and economic consequences.
It's about time our nation recognized Addiction for what it is:
The biggest public health issue and homeland security threat
that our nation faces, and by far.
Recovery Radio will embark upon a round-robin battle plan
strategy to attack each of the major categories of addiction-
both drugs and behavioral addictions. Join us each Saturday from
6 - 8P Pacific Time here in Los Angeles on 99.5 FM KKLA, or,
streaming on the web.
Be
a soldier in the WAR ON ADDICTION!! Recovery Radio will lead the
charge!!! Any time, any place, and in any manner!!! We are
committed to help liberate addicts and their families from the
shackles of Addiction. RECOVERY WORKS!!

3. UCLA AND MATRIX INSTITUTE
ADDICTIONOLOGIST WOWS RECOVERY RADIO LISTENERS
Dr.
Matt Torrington, a Los Angeles-based and board-certified
Family Practice physician and ASAM-certified ADDICTIONOLOGIST
joined Bob and Dr Steve for the full two hours of our show
this past Saturday night. Audience response was nothing short
of phenomenal, as Dr. Torrington shared with us his commitment
as a physician to battling the fight against the biggest
public health problem in the US today: ADDICTION.
His description
of how the brain works; how addiction is really a brain
disease, was simple yet very illuminating. In a nutshell,
addicts' brains process "pleasure' in a way that is not
useful; only to reinforce the temporary rush of the
neurotransmitter "dopamine" as a reaction to the pleasurable
effects of drugs and alcohol. The addict's brain is different
from the so-called "normie's"; it only wants MORE of that
drug. And regardless of anything; even the worst of
consequences are frivolously tossed to the wayside by the
addict. Addiction is NOT a lifestyle choice or moral
lapse; it is a BRAIN DISEASE.
Dr. Torrington went on to relate how he became convinced that
many of the diseases that all doctors see are a direct result
of alcohol or addiction. So, he became determined to work at
fixing the root cause; he became an addictionologist. His
relating the story of one particularly recalcitrant cocaine
addict who was "completely hopeless' was riveting- that
hopeless addict responded dramatically to the new
PROMETA ™
protocols and got into meaningful recovery. This individual
noted after his PROMETA
™
treatment that his cravings for cocaine were quite suddenly
nearly gone. Amazing!!! Another caller stated that she had
taken her son to Dr. Torrington because of continuing and
treatment-resistant methamphetamine addiction. He, too,
received the PROMETA
™
treatment and was helped immensely.
The main point
that many of us walked away with is that, with
PROMETA ™,
there now appears to be a very promising MEDICAL
intervention for addiction. Thus far, "medical solutions"
(ie, medications aimed at treating addiction) have not been
particularly helpful in the treatment of addiction. Rather,
cognitive treatment therapies such as the 12-Steps (AA, NA,
etc) have been the foundation of most recovery strategies.
Clearly, new research and clinical breakthroughs are giving us
good reason to take a careful re-evaluation of the role of
medical treatments in recovery from drug and alcohol
addiction. Thank you Dr. Torrington!!!
