NAME:
Recovery Radio Show
NETWORK:
Recovery Media, Inc.
LOCATION:
Aliso Viejo, California
SUMMARY:
Recovery Media, Inc. is comprised of an expanding network of radio
stations designed to bring the entire spectrum of addiction to, and
recovery from, alcoholism , substance abuse, and compulsive behaviors to
local, regional and national listeners.
Already highly charged, it is when live calls from those suffering from
addictive behaviors are added to the mix that the live program is
transformed into a pseudo-melodrama emotive of an earlier radio era, with
callers sharing their “as-it-is-happening, moment-by-moment,
you-are-there” stories.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES:
Guided by the “12-Step” process that is the basis of so many recovery
programs, the fledgling program has taken on a weekly episodic tone, with
many listeners now tuning in to hear the conclusion to a story that may
have begun with a call a week or two earlier, or the result of advice
given to a previous caller addicted to heroin and cocaine, or whether a
caller survived after telling the show’s hosts he or she was about to
commit suicide due to their inability to stay sober or stop gambling.
LIVE CALL-IN FORMAT:
Live calls to the program have covered alcoholism and the damage it
wreaks in the everyday lives of those who love, care for, or are included
– often against their will by familial, professional or other unavoidable
means – in the lives of alcoholics.
Addiction topics similarly have included calls from those suffering from
heroin or meth-amphetamine addiction to callers who could not stop
gambling until their finances were dependent on so-called “Payday Loans”
with interest rates of more than 300 percent.

ON-AIR PERSONALITIES:
Following are the true and accurate bio sketches of the on-air trio who
are at the core of the show:
• Bob M., the former NCAA Division One football player and former vice
president of a $250 million corporation, who as co-host is the show’s
spiritual leader and has been sober for 14 years. Many years ago Bob told
his wife he was going to the corner market to buy a pack of cigarettes one
evening and never came home. Bob was “on the street” for two years,
sleeping in abandoned buildings, shooting drugs, dealing drugs, brawling,
using, drinking until he found his eventual salvation.

• Dr. Steve,
a co-host, is a fully licensed
and board-certified emergency physician who was educated at Harvard
College and the University of Minnesota Medical School. He fought his way
back from opiate addiction to sobriety while battling a debilitating
chronic pain condition of his own. For 14 years, he was the head of
emergency and trauma care at a busy urban medical center in the nation’s
largest metropolitan area.
